Sorry that it's been another three weeks wait for a new strip. We've just bought a house, and my plate is pretty
full in other ways too. I hope you are all keeping well.

9 January 2012
I've been visiting family for the last couple weeks, so all
Standing in the Sea postcard sets ordered during that time
will be mailed today.

12 December 2011
Parsimony is now officially out of print, so thanks to everyone who bought a copy. And I'm happy to announce that
Two Ravens Press will be publishing a second full-length collection of my poetry, The Simple Men, in April 2012.
In the meantime there are still plenty of Standing in the Sea postcard sets available, and copies
of The Scarecrow too. Some days I feel like the only
poet who draws an internet comic, and some days I feel like the only internet cartoonist who writes poetry. But whatever
I am, to those of you who hang around: thank you.

The next comic will appear on January 9th.

There are a still a few copies of
Parsimony left with the publishers. Makes a great gift (even for yourself).

14 November 2011
Thank you to everyone who has already bought a
Standing in the Sea postcard set. As these people
are discovering, the postcards are good for mailing to
friends, and also for filling little frames on your wall. But the best thing to do with them is to mail them to your
friend and let her put them in little frames on her wall.

7 November 2011
It's been three weeks since the last strip, I know, and I'll make up for it with another one next week. This is partly
because I've been involved in Standing in the Sea, my second collaboration with
Laurie Hastings, which is now available from
the poetry page as a limited-edition postcard set. Perhaps something for gift-giving season?

There are also a couple new things on the Reader Stuff page:
Glen's Series 1 transcription and
Alex's BF pumpkin.

This is the last time I will mention
this little event which also has a listing

come along.

Have I told you that
this is going on? If you live near Sheffield please

19 September 2011
I was picking blackberries in the forest this (Sunday) morning, and met an old-timer looking for mushrooms. It happens
that I've recently
learned a thing or two about gathering mushrooms, so we talked mushrooms for a few minutes. Just the edible kind,
I mean, not the mind-altering kind, which I've never used, being fond of my mind as-is. I'm just saying: it's a good thing
for a Sunday morning in September to talk to an old-timer about mushrooms.

6 September 2011
Sorry that this is a day late. Computer problems. But in other news, if by chance you are in or near Sheffield (England),
please consider coming to this:
Standing in the Sea - print and poetry exhibition,
a new collaboration with my friend Laurie Hastings, a sequel
of sorts to this. I'll be reading some poems, and talking some words, that sort of thing.

The guy at school who could do something with his thumbs was always a guy worth knowing. A new strip will be up in a week (that being the 22nd).

8 August 2011
I really was hoping to have a new strip ready, but Sunday turned out to have been a day for slowness, unpacking
and sorting things after a camping trip, and then seeing the new Harry Potter film with my wife. That morning I was
scribbling a few lines in a notebook as I slurped coffee, and a juvenile sparrowhawk landed in the
birch tree outside our apartment window. It perched and peered for maybe half a minute before moving on. Beautiful thing.
So now I'm listening to It's the Same Old Song by the Four Tops, and what with having just got back from the film
and the sparrowhawk and all, I'm feeling rather emotional. New strips for the next two weeks, pinky swear.

This is just to say that I am leaving the world for a couple of weeks, so will be out of email touch. I hope to return
with a new comic, or at least a new something or other, on Monday the 8th of August.

5 July 2011
If anyone can offer tips about how to use my scanner and Photoshop to produce a nicer scan of watercolor, without the
bleached appearance of, for instance, the background in the upper-right of this strip, I would be interested to hear from
you. The original looks so much richer and smoother (that sounds like coffee), but after tweaking contrasts and color
mixes, I'm stumped. Maybe I just need to use less pale tones on anything that's headed for the web. Hmm.

20 June 2011
I realized recently how long it's been since I've taken out the watercolors, so I thought I'd do some color strips to try
to get back in the habit. Prints of these are available and will be in full color, just as they appear.
