2010 May 11th

In case this flashback/recap inspires you to go back and read through the archives... wait! I'm in the middle of putting together dedicated chapter webpages, each of which will feature all 32 of the pages from their respective parts. While these pages will be a bit heavy (about 4MB) I figure it will be much easier to let the page load and then read through an entire chapter without having to click next for each page. Hopefully that will all be ready for next week!

Last time they communicated in this way, over a year of real time elapsed before we saw the other side of the conversation. Now we come to both sides at the same time. I guess this doesn't seem that big a deal, but let it just be noted that this took some planning, and I am pleased with it, okay!

2010 April 13th

End of Chapter 6!

Ever notice how in fiction (even purportedly 'real time' stuff like 24) interesting things happen at just the right moment? I know it helps the dramatic flow, but done too often it starts to annoy me as the coincidences start to mount up. And so, Dante and Jaguar will just have to wait.

2010 April 6th

The issue of paradoxes is never far away when you mess around with time! Here Jaguar makes explicit what has been implicit since the comic began almost exactly 4 years ago. On that subject, 4 year anniversary of DMD, woo!

Meanwhile, I've started playing Slime Forest again in order to learn katakana well enough that I can read the untranslated sound effects in Nausicaa. I recommend giving it a try.

2010 March 23rd

That's right, the 'evil crimson cosmos ginger processing plant'! The camouflage outfit Ulala reportedly wore for that mission is I think my favourite outfit in Space Channel 5 part 2. As for plot developments... I'm saying nothing!

2010 March 16th

I figure Dante has had some experience with demon possession and knows enough not to trust what the host claims. But who knows what could have happened to Ulala between when we saw her last and when she may eventually have swapped back?

2010 March 9th

The two bits of information implied on the previous page were that this person knows Pudding, but they also presumably know about soul swapping enough to ask for for the year and a mirror. Well, with this page we have another interesting data-point!

So now we get down to the detective work, and I finally make explicit the design of the soul-swapping device after alluding to it for nearly four years!

2010 February 16th

And so at last we return to Dante, who raises a very important question: if the whole point of him playing along was to recover the soul swapping device, why shouldn't he just swap himself back as soon as he has it?

-Tim

2009 February 2nd

This encounter is pretty much just as mysterious in the original DMC. I like that I can put the bafflement I felt at the time into Ulala's reaction here, as in the game Dante just seems to carry on as if this sort of thing is always happening to him. Which, to be fair, it probably is.
