Ft Monroe-Political Correctness runs amok again

Gentlemen- This was received today from AOT Commander Barrow. This concerns a Politically Correct subversion of Ft Monroe. Please act accordingly, and please be sure to read the message and, as well as, the attachments so you are well versed in what we must do to preserve the true history of Ft Monroe. So far this attack has largely ignored the significance of Ft Monroe to Confederate history.

November 2009

Dear Confederate Heritage Friends,

I am writing to you today to inform you of my disappointment in how Interpretive Solutions, the consultant company that was hired by the Fort Monroe FADA (FM FADA), conducted the meeting last week. Many of you received a letter requesting you to attend this workshop, or to contact friends in the area to attend. I thank you for your help.

The meeting was set up to give a false impression that the public wants the African-American Experience to be the dominant theme at the future Fort Monroe.

The History of the Confederacy at Fort Monroe was virtually ignored by the consultant. We defeated their purpose at this meeting by writing in the Confederacy and having many people vote for it. However, the consultants have many other avenues to get their goals across. I will continue to insist that the Confederacy be a major theme, but I definitely need everyone 's help.

During a nine month process, there will be surveys on the FM FADA website asking the public to make their wishes known. This is where I need your help! Please take the time to respond to these surveys and help to make sure that our Confederate History at Fort Monroe remains known in the future, while also staying historically accurate. I will let you know when the survey changes and how we can best answer the survey. This process may be our last chance!

I talked with the consultants and other various committee members stressing the fact that we are not taking away anyone else's opportunity for their story to be told. However, I insisted that we do want our story to be told, and to be told historically accurately.

A detailed description of the happenings of this meeting is on my attachment. I have also included in this description the answers that I feel we need to write in the boxes, which are contained at the end of each section.

So that the consultants can't twist our words and count our requests as separate items, it is a necessity that the wording of our answers be consistent.

Do not vote for other choices on their charts, even if you like them, because that diminishes the impact of our votes for the historically accurate Confederate themes. That way the politically correct themes chosen by the establishment will not evolve as the people's choices.

The website for the FM FADA linking to the survey is: www.fmfada.com

The survey can also be found at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=4UgtU8V7ze5_2bu7MKyO4CXg_3d_3d

Please take the time to answer the survey and to read my attached description that further details the happenings of the meeting and how the desired outcome can be reached.

I would appreciate it if you let me know by e-mail that you have completed the survey. That way, if necessary, I will have the number of people who responded as evidence of our participation.

Thank you,

Christine Gergely

UDC Liaison for Fort Monroe

Illinois Division offers to help Texas Division

While attending the National Convention, I met Dennis Beal, the Chief of Staff for the Teaxas Division. He complimented the Illinois Division on our website. He told me then called up his division webmaster and ripped him a new one. He pointed out that the Illinois Division is a much smaller operation and Texas should have a better website that what they have now due to the size of their division. He told me he threatened fire his webmaster. Since that meeting with COS Beal, I have offered to help his webmaster and their division with their website. To the extent that I can. I have given up on the idea of trying to get a National Award for our division website, as the TennesseeDivision has theirs done professionally, and they win every year. Personally, I think their website is very good, but because it is done by professionals, they should be disqualified from National competition. My opinion anyways.

Silly Website Improvement

Just a note for all subscribers. The division website now its own icon. when you save the site to your favorites, it will save with the name and the photo icon. If you save it to your favorites bar, just the icon will be saved, thus just click the photo icon. By the way, this took me a day to figure out what should have been something easy. SO please use it-jj

The expansion vision spreads

I have spoken to Gale Red, and he has told me of one of their next camp missions. Gale has expressd his agreement in expanding the Illinois Division and has is looking forward to seeing new SCV camps springing up all over Illinois.
Gale and the camp command administartion of now and in the past have worked their camp into a camp model for expansion and cohesion. With their camp on solid footing, they are stepping out to help their division's vision take hold and grow more camps. Rockford is just a beginning, there a a few sites in Central and Southern Illinois that we might be able to plant the seeds of a new SCV camps. If you have an idea, send it to John Jeffers or Gale Red.

Camp Douglas has new camp number

Camp Douglas now has a "new" camp number. Before there was a Camp Douglas SCV in Chicago there was a an SCV camp in Chicago. It went by a few different names, but the camp number was always 516. After this oversight was discovered by IHQ, we have asked that Camp Douglas be allowed to reassume using the original camp number assigned to Chicago and to retire 1507 until such time that a second Chicago camp is activated. Our request was granted. As of this date, Camp Douglas will now be using the original number assigned to our geographic location, 516. 1507 is now retired and will continue to be associated with Chicago. I will start to change over the websites and any other pertinent electronic media to reflect our "new" number.

Thank You

To all the Illinois Division camps who donated men to make the Rockford camp a reality- I thank you. I thank you for catching the shared vision of expanding the Illinois Division, and for your willingness to lose men from your own camps to make a new camp. That decision is always hard for any camp commander. We are now focusing on the Peoria and Springfield areas for a new camps. Which ever one of these camps really starts to make coordinated effort towards chartering will get the focus of the Division.

Texas Sucession Website

I found this website to be what I would consider a logical explanation and debunking of popular 'why you cannot succeed' arguements and succession myths. Take it for what it is worth. Submitted by Compatriot Mark Ellis- Camp Douglas #1507
