<title>We have ALL thought this at one time or another, in some form or another!</title>
<link>http://thinkexist.com/quotation/for-every-southern-boy-fourteen-years-old-not/347296.html</link>
<description>“For every Southern boy fourteen years old, not once but whenever he wants it, there is the instant when it's still not yet two o’clock on that July afternoon in 1863, the brigades are in position behind the rail fence, the guns are laid and ready in the woods and the furled flags are already loosened to break out and Pickett himself with his long oiled ringlets and his hat in one hand probably and his sword in the other looking up the hill waiting for Longstreet to give the word and it's all in the balance, it hasn't happened yet, it hasn't even begun yet, it not only hasn't begun yet but there is still time for it not to begin against that position and those circumstances which made more men than Garnett and Kemper and Armistead and Wilcox look grave yet it's going to begin, we all know that, we have come too far with too much at stake and that moment doesn't need even a fourteen-year-old boy to think This time. Maybe this time with all this much to lose and all this much to gain: Pennsylvania, Maryland, the world, the golden dome of Washington itself to crown with desperate and unbelievable victory the desperate gamble, the cast made two years ago....

<title>New edition to the Division website</title>
<link>http://ill-div-scv.org/disc1_welc.htm</link>
<description>Today the Illinois Division announces that a new edition to the website is up and running. The compatriots of Illinois division now have a new forum on the website to discuss whatever we want to discuss. The discussion forum can be accessed through the home page of the division website. As of now access is free of security passwords, however, if we do have outsiders being trolls, we will put in a secure password for it to keep "those people" out. So enjoy the site, just be the gentlemen that we are and talk about whatever. Criticism is welcome, as long as it is constructive. Otherwise, it just comes down to bitching, however, bitching with a purpose and a solution is most welcome. -jj </description>

<title>5th Annual Civil War Days
in White Hall, Illinois
</title>
<link>http://www.geocities.com/gengrant1862/civilwardays.html</link>
<description>
Recruiting Event!!!!!!!!!!!! For SCV Illinois Division-any camp!!

"Our Battle of Shiloh"

School Day: Friday, October 2, 2009
Main Event Days: October 3rd &amp; 4th, 2009

Sponsored by the North Greene Chamber of Commerce

As you have noticed, we have changed the date of our Civil War Reenactment to the first weekend in October due to the fact the weather was too unpredictable on the second weekend in April. Hopefully, this does not conflict with any plans that you have already made for your 2009 Civil War Reenactment Season! You are more than welcome to walk through our authentic campsites and talk to our reeanactors, shop our period sutlers, drink our old fashioned root beer, eat our kettle corn and food in the food vendor area, and enjoy our various shows throughout the day.

Our actual battles are 2:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday afternoons. You will notice the infantry (foot soldiers) in their blue trim, the cavalry (mounted horsemen) in their yellow trim, and the artillery (with their cannons) in their red trim. The gray uniforms represent the southern confederates, and the dark blue uniforms are worn by our northern union troops. Sometimes, you may notice a green uniform which represents sharpshooters. Also, the Johnny Rebels sometimes wear a butternut (brown-colored) uniform as you will see some of our White Hall soldiers wearing. Some men dress as businessmen and do not wear soldier uniforms. The ladies' attire will be camp gowns, day dresses, tea dresses, travel clothing, and ball gowns. Children are dressed in period costumes, too.

Saturday morning, we have a Ladies' Tea. In the mornings, you will see the various units practicing for battle. A special event for all is the blowing up of the outhouse. You may see children in the campgrounds playing with period toys. There are many types of demonstrations throughout the day, including a blacksmith and a mortician. Usually, we hear period stories and songs throughout the day. Local people share their family civil war history with the crowd. You will discover some ladies dressed as soldiers, and there were many women who did just that during the civil war. In the past we have had President Lincoln and his wife, Mary; Mark Twain; and General Grant and his wife, Julia. The Grand Ball will be on grounds under the Big Tent with refreshments and period music on Saturday night. .

Sunday morning at 9:00 A.M., we offer you an old-fashioned church service. The public is more than welcome to attend. Come one; come all. Bring your lawn chairs and spend the day. There will be an entrance fee on Saturday and Sunday. Gate charges are $3.00 for adults and children under 12 are FREE.

Times: Friday, October 2 from 9 to 2.
           Saturday, October 3  from 9 to 5.
           Sunday, October 4 from 9 to 4.

Persons, interested in attending our School Day, need to let us know names of schools, number of students and teachers attending, plus a contact person and telephone number. From now on, our School Days will be the first Friday of October, which is October 2nd in 2009. The cut-off date for School Day registrations this year is Friday, September 18th. Also, we will not be providing sack lunches for school children anymore. You may suggest your students bring their own sack lunches, or we will try to have our vendors provide you with a reasonably priced lunch for your convenience. Letting us know the number of those wanting to eat lunches on site would be great since it would help our food vendor(s) know how much food they would need to have made up ahead of time. All educators may direct questions regarding our School Day to Patti Brown.

Food vendors, who are interested in setting up at our reenactment need to fill out a vendor form and provide us with proof of insurance. This includes homemade root beer stands, kettle corn booths, and meal food vendors. If you are interested in creating an economically priced meal for children on the School Day, please let us know you are interested when you contact Mark Brown with the rest of your information.

Sutlers or period merchandise stores will need to contact us with their information, time they want to set up, so we can be here to guide them to their appointed spots. We will map our event out, and you will all have your assigned area. We would like a number of those attending with you to our event, so we can get an accurate number for our free Saturday night meal. Please, contact Mark Brown to let him know you are interested in attending our event. We will have a MS Word downloadable form on this site for you to fill out with your information and send back to us via email or regular mail for our record keeping.

Reenactors may set up Thursday night and all day Friday. You will need to register in the Big Tent or Big Pavilion on the civil war site. You will find a downloadable form that you may fill out and send to Mark Brown, event coordinator. We need group, names, and number including women who plan to camp out with you to obtain an idea of how many dinners we will need to prepare for your free meal Saturday evening. It may be good to know the number of ladies who may want to attend the Saturday tea as well. The Grand Ball will be on site in the Big Tent or large pavilion. If you would be willing to help with our School Day or know of interested parties, please contact Mark or Patti Brown.

<title>Franklin Grove Re-enactment</title>
<link>http://www.chaplincreek.com/</link>
<description>This could be a good recruiting event for the right camp!!!

Welcome to the web site of Chaplin Creek Village which was founded and is supported by the Franklin Grove Area Historical Society.

Chaplin Creek Village is an evolving, full-scale historical restoration project depicting a prairie settlement typical of the middle 19th century. The village is being developed around a crossroads as many small communities did at that time. The name for the village, "Chaplin", comes from the first settlement in the area, which was just north of the historic site at the intersection of Lahman and State streets in the Village of Franklin Grove.

The Historical Society sponsors several events at Chaplin Creek Village several times throughout the year. During the rest of the year, the site is open to visitors to tour the various historic buildings, gardens and grounds.

Second Annual Battle of Chaplin Creek - Civil War Reenactment and Living History Weekend

Included on the schedule for 2009, is The Second Annual Battle of Chaplin Creek - Civil War Reenactment and Living History Weekend sponsored by the Franklin Grove Area Historical Society and hosted by Battery G, 2nd Illinois Light Artillery Civil War Reenactment Unit.

The reenactment takes place Saturday and Sunday June 27th and 28th at Chaplin Creek Village in Franklin Grove, IL. Please check back after the end of January for more details.

For information concerning Chaplin Creek Village and the Franklin Grove Area Historical Society, including becoming a member and our special events, please write to us at ccinfo@chaplincreek.com or call 815-990-5090.
