January Book in a Week

2012 began with 18 members taking the "Book in a Week" challenge. Together they produced 350 new pages! Our "winner" was Joanna McKethan, who wrote 41 of those.

December Book in a Week

Seven people decided to get in on the mad writing rush that was the December Book in a Week challenge. Together they produced 124 new pages! Our "winner" was Joanna McKethan, who wrote 47 pages. She said, "I'm ecstatic about my progress." Let's give her and everyone else a huge hand for outsmarting (or at least out-running) their inner editors! The next BiaW, which will of course kick off our 2012 writing efforts, will begin January 7. If you plan on joining us, you may want to start gathering your materials: research, backstories, plot ideas, etc., now so you can hit the ground writing.

October Book in a Week

People were probably storing up energy for next month's NaNoWriMo, for the October Book in a Week challenge only had 3 participants. Together they produced 41 new pages! Rebecca Greene was our "winner" with a week's total of 20 pages. Congratulations to all! Our next BiaW will commence Nov. 5th.

November Book in a Week

We had just 5 participants in the NaNoWriMo month of November, but together they produced 75 new pages. Our "winner" was Cynthia Cooke, who came up with 28 of those. Applause for all involved! Next BiaW will commence Dec. 3. Be there or be square!

August Book in a Week

For the August Book in a Week challenge we had 5 participants (plus), who were really producing! In fact, Dana wrote so hard that she burned out for a day. (She recovered!) Merry reported that she was walking like a zombie after falling asleep in her recliner with her laptop. Kerry Vail used BiaW as an excuse to edit as fast as she could and went through 109 pages of her wip. (Because she was editing, she's not included in the group stats.) Merry also furnished us with a link to an article about writing faster: http://www.slate.com/id/2301243 . Our five writers produced 271 new pages over the week-- that's 54 pages on average-- and our winner was Lyla Dune, with 80 pages! Let's give everyone a big hand! The next BiaW begins Sept. 3.

September Book in a Week

September's Book in a Week group consisted of four members, who together wrote 157 new pages. First-timer Rebecca Greene wrote 46 of those, but it was Gina Lamm, who wrote 92 pages in 3 days, completing a first draft, who "won" the challenge! Our October BiaW will begin in the 1st.

June Book in a Week

The June Book in a Week challenge had 7 participants, who produced 205 new pages! Joanna McKethan said that BiaW got her unstuck, and that she's made a good start on two different projects because of it.

Cindy Holby had a looming deadline. When she finally collapsed on her keyboard, she had managed 73 new pages for the week, and is our winner. Congratulations to her and all our group!

The next BiaW will begin on the 2nd of July. WHY do we so often have to compete with a holiday weekend?

May Book in a Week

This time we had only 4 participants, but they pumped out 90 pages between them. The group shared lots of suggestions for how to approach writing quickly and how to keep track of pages. Our winner was Lyla Dune, narrowly beating out Nancy Northcott by producing 36 pages! The next Book in a Week challenge will start the 4th of June.

Cindy Holby accepted a two book contract from Berkley to write westerns. The first book, Godsend will be out in early 2012.SEA LORD by Virginia Kantra is a Maggie finalist in Paranormal. Congratulations, Virginia!
