February 2nd, 2010: Yesterday was the seven year anniversary of Dinosaur Comics! I started the comic on February 1st, 2003. Holy crap! Like in most years, I only noticed the anniversary when someone let me know, which makes me probably the worst parent -- but it's okay because my "child" is not "actually" "alive". OR IS IT?? No it's not, but thank you everyone reading these words! You've let me have the best job in the world, and I really really appreciate it. Thanks so much! Okay so TODAY'S comic was inspired by a Reddit thread, What's the craziest fact you know that most people don't know? It was one of those links that you click thinking, yes, YES, I am probably going to learn something awesome today. And I did, thanks to meloveyoulongtime! Poops on the MOON. There have been a lot of moon comics AND poop comics lately, I am happy with the two recent obsessions of T-Rex being the moon and also poops, I feel that this is the best we could have hoped for. – Ryan

January 28th, 2010: Yesterday I linked to Posterchild and Jason Eppink's great Astoria Scum River Bridge, a bridge these two men had built over a perputally leaky pipe in Astoria, and mentioned how it had gotten fan mail from a NYC counciller. It turns out it had done more than that: after four years of doing nothing, the city fixed the scum river pipes yesterday. I think this is entirely fantastic. Some of the comments online were like "WHY BUILD A BRIDGE WHEN YOU CAN JUST FIX THE PIPE BECAUSE I WOULD'VE FIXED THE PIPE IN LIKE TEN SECONDS", which sort of ignores the fact that Posterchild and Jason aren't actually plumbers, and no matter how well-intentioned they are, the bridge is federal properly and tampering with the pipes is a felony. Especially if, as amateurs, they messed up and made it worse. But adding a bridge is achievable, allows people to cross the river safely, AND draws attention to the problem in a way that got it fixed within three days. Awesome. (In other news, I drove home late last night and my mom wanted me to email her when I arrived so she knew I was okay, but she'd be asleep when the email came in anyway! So I told her if my comic updated today I was still alive. Thus, today's comic is special, because it doubles as a RYAN IS STILL ALIVE INDICATOR. Hi mom!) – Ryan

i did a search and my suspicions were confirmed: the "wheelchariot" is the name of a fancy brand of wheelchair. good work, guys!

January 27th, 2010: Rockoons! JUST AS AWESOME AS YOU IMAGINED. So yesterday I linked to Posterchild and Jason Eppink's awesome Astoria Scum River Bridge (a story that was picked up by Boing Boing!) and said it was cool how street art can be constructive. Post's latest update is even more awesome: the bridge has been tagged (thereby christening it as an official Brooklyn piece of public transit), but also, NYC Council Member Peter F. Vallone Jr. (representin' Astoria!) sent them an official letter thanking them for making the bridge, and promising that the leak that caused the bridge to be necessary in the first place will be repaired. So awesome, you guys! Often when people online talk about street art, the conversation devolves to "hurr hurr if someone ever tags my suburban garage door I'll kill 'em, nobody better tag my suburban garage door", and it's really cool when something like this happens and you can point to it and say "positive change through street art, JERKS" and then whisper under your breath "sorry for calling you jerks, but seriously". – Ryan

January 20th, 2010: At the bottom of Monday's Poker Face comic, I included the original song as well as three rad covers, and ended with the instructions "Play them all at once". Alex not only did that, but lined them up as best he could, producing this insane result. I think it would be great music to play on loop if you needed to stay up for, like, 80 hours. I, um - I can't think of many other circumstances where it would be handy. Enjoy! – Ryan
