Only after I had already started coloring this scene did I realize that this wall color was very similar to the castle walls. Apparently it's a color I like a lot!

There's a difficult balancing act with details. They need to be there to dress the set, let you know where everything is taking place and let you feel like it's actually happening. But if you put in too many, they're distracting from what you want people to realy focus on. I tend to focus on details a lot, but luckily I'm lazy enough that it balances itself.

I have a hard time believing in the motion of some of my drawings, and I feel that motion lines and other such tricks are a lazy way out of drawing it right. I'm hoping someday I'll learn how to choose the right frame to draw, and it'll look much better.

You know, the stone walls are kinda fun, they make for a quick way to indicate a wall is there and not just a bunch of color.

I don't know why, but this one took forever to draw. I had no trouble drawing the last panel though. It was one of those, so funny I have to draw it moments.

Not much of a punch line, but we're getting to see Lucien when he's not putting on his fop attitude. I haven't explained how he can talk to his girls, have I? I'll have to do that soon.

When dealing with extras, it's a balancing act to try and make them seem real and believable while not becoming main characters themselves. This gets even harder when something you've writen for one character gets said by someone else.

I try hard to make the body types varied, though sometimes I don't think I push myself enough. I like Milli's design though, she's got a slightly pudgy look (mostly with her face, admitedly) that turned out cute.

To repeat my earlier news post, I've got to take a break for a bit. The plan is to be back the first tuesday in September (Sept. 2nd). Feel free to check back during the break though, as I will be trying to keep updating other things around here like the extras.

And so begins the side quest! This chapter is almost a prologue in my head, and I've always thought that this is where the prologue really got going. I hope you'll think so too.

I had such a time with the dialogue here. I finally just gave up and tried to jam everything in. It overwhelms poor Lucien in the first panel, but the boy's flamboyant enough, it shouldn't be a problem for him.

Lucian's just trying to be mysterious and look evil with that shadow over his eyes. He set the lighting up just so it would do that too.

Although Gate Guardians are treated like royalty here, there is so much stress involved in being one that Ten came to think the title as a job with some nice perks to make up for all the annoyances that come with it. Dealing with people who think they're too important for the rules is one of those annoyances.
