Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Today we kick off Catholic Schools Week with our liturgy at 9:30am and Open House immediately following. Through the generosity of our community St. Bartholomew School has continued the mission to Love, Educate and Inspire our children in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Mazzarella, the faculty and staff, HSA and the SAC committees for all their hard work and commitment to the education of our children.

Tomorrow evening, February 1st at the 7pm Mass we will gather with our First Communicants to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas Day). Candles will be blessed in honor of the Blessed Mother who presented the Christ Child in the Temple at Jerusalem. The children will receive a Miraculous Medal and a Scapular of Our Lady and be dedicated as children of Mary.

Please come join us in celebrating this joyful feast!

In Christ,

Candlemas Vigil

February 1 at 7:00pm

Candlemas is a traditional Christian festival that commemorates the ritual of purification of Mary forty days after the birth of her son, Jesus. On this day, Christians remember the presentation of Jesus Christ in the Temple. Forty days after the birth of a Jewish boy, it was the custom to take him to the temple in Jerusalem to be presented to God by his thankful parents.

In pre-Christian times, this day was known as the "Feast of Lights" and celebrated the increase strength of the lifegiving sun as winter gave way to spring.

This feast is called Candlemas because that was the day on which the year's supply of candles for the church were blessed.

Come join the Vigil celebration on February 1 at 7:00pm

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Beginning Sunday, January 31st our Diocese celebrates our Catholic Schools. Here at St. Bartholomew we have a long tradition of supporting Catholic education. Our school opened in 1964 with the help of the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from Immaculata, PA. Through the past 50 years the school has been an integral part of the mission of our parish. The past two years the school community has worked diligently to place the school on a solid financial, educational and spiritual foundation.

Next Sunday we will have a school liturgy at the 9:30am Mass followed by an 'Open House.' Everyone is invited to tour the school and its facilities.

In Christ,
