Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we honor Mary, the Mother of God, and gather to celebrate the gift of Our Lady in our spiritual lives. Growing up, May was always Mary's month and we spent the days praying her rosary and honoring her with processions and devotions. In school we wrote cards and letters to our own Moms and promised to pray for their intentions. Devotion to Mary is a hallmark of what it means to be a Catholic Christian. Yet, many Catholics no longer honor Mary and place their children under her care. I cannot remember the last baby that I baptized with the name of Mary; and, how many Catholics remember to carry a rosary to pray to her?

Still, Mary makes her presence felt in the beauty of the springtime, the sound and laughter of children and the abiding sense that Mary surrounds us with her love. Please take time to honor her in your homes and in your hearts.

"Virgin Mother, Rejoice!
Gracious Mary,
The Lord is with you,
Blessed are you among women,
And blessed is the fruit of your womb,
You who bore the One who would save us,
Cause of our joy, O Holy Mother." Amen.

In Christ,

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Next Sunday, May 13, we will have our annual Parish May Crowning at the 10:00am Mass. All of our First Communicants are invited to join in the procession to honor Our Lady.

Please call the Office of Religious Education if you or your child are planning on attending (732-390-0354).

My favorite prayer to Mary is the "Memorare."

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

From the Pastor's Desk

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is called "Good Shepherd Sunday." In the Gospel, Jesus tells the disciples that He is the Shepherd of the flock and that He knows each of us and calls us by name. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep and He will lead us to eternal life. Today the Church throughout the world prays for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life. May the Lord continue to give His people shepherds after His own heart.

As you know, St. Bartholomew Church has a policy that a candle offering be made when a candle is lit in any of the shrines on the sides of the church. It has come to my attention that many candles are being lit during the day without a candle donation, and the offering boxes are being tampered with and money stolen despite efforts to secure the boxes.

Beginning today, candles for the shrines may only be purchased in the narthex of the church after all masses. The price for each candle is $3, or two candles for $5. Thank you for your patience.

Please continue to pray for our First Communicants and their families.

In Christ,

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Easter Season is filled with signs of Spring and New Life. Yesterday we celebrated the first of three of our First Communions. Our boys and girls are so filled with joy to be receiving Our Lord in the sacrament of the Eucharist. Please keep all of our first communicants and their families in your prayers. I also want to express my gratitude to Mrs. Barbara Fitzgerald and our wonderful catechists and teachers for providing such an excellent sacramental program for all of our children and young adults.

On Sunday, May 13th, all of our first communicants are invited to the 10am Mass for our annual parish May Crowning. The children will come in procession bringing flowers to the Blessed Mother and crowning her as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Please remember to pray the Rosary for World Peace.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God that we may be worthy of the promised of Christ.
