<title>UFV Theatre kicks off new season with hilarious musical comedy

</title>
<link>http://www.ufv.ca/MarCom/UFV_Events.htm</link>
<description>Tickets now on sale for the first presentation of the UFV season of theatre.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, a wild and crazy musical comedy that won a hatful of Tony awards when it was first presented on the Broadway stage to rave reviews in 1962, will grace the UFV stage starting in November.

With music by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, Forum displays all the elements of a true farce: broad physical comedy, stock comic characters, puns, mistaken identities, and satirical comments on social class. It tells the story of a Roman slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young
master woo the girl next door. It’s funny and filled with great song and dance numbers. It’s live theatre at its best: the ultimate in 3D entertainment!

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is directed by Ian Fenwick.

It opens Fri, Nov 12 in the theatre on the Chilliwack campus on Yale Rd. and runs Nov. 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27,at 7.30 pm. with two reduced-rate previews Nov. 10 and 11 and matinees Tues, Nov. 16 and Wed, Nov. 24 at noon and Sun, Nov 21 and 28 at 2 pm.

Ticket prices range between $10 to $20. Special priced flex-season tickets that include all three productions of our upcoming season: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Girl in the Goldfish Bowl and The Tempest, are also now on sale.

Dr. Lionel Pandolfo, UFV: Global Climate Dynamics – A Journey through the Atmospheric Maze

Climatology is an interdisciplinary science whose practitioners study the complex geophysical system to understand Earth’s habitability. Within climatology Dr. Pandolfo's interest lies in investigating the dynamics of earth’s atmospheric envelope that evolves on fast time scales. Even though, in people’s minds, climatology is concerned with studying the phenomenon of global warming, the lowest layers of the atmosphere, the troposphere and stratosphere, offer a rich assortment of dynamical phenomena. In hindsight, one can see that these phenomena are intertwined with global warming.

<title>University Lecture Series,
featuring Dr. Adrienne Chan,
School of Social Work and Human Services </title>
<link>http://www.ufv.ca/MarCom/UFV_Events.htm</link>
<description>Wed, Nov 17
7 pm
Abbotsford campus, B101

What does social justice mean to the university?
Dr. Chan teaches in the School of Social Work and Human Services at UFV, leading classes in research methods, cross-cultural and anti-racism studies, child welfare, and theory and ethics. Her broad research goal is to identify how social justice is conceptualized and implemented through policy and practice. Most universities in Canada appear to have articulated the basic ‘pillars’ of social justice but there are continuing problems with exclusionary and discriminatory practices on campus. Policies and practices that are consistent with social justice principles include those that facilitate access, equity, and the elimination of barriers to participation in education. These terms are often simple to say and difficult to exhibit in practice.
