Tales of the Zero-Men: Costume Concept Art

I'm not good at bad news, so I'm going to just blunder into it as clumsily as possible: Tales of the Zero-Men is at its end.

For those that might not know, I'm Jeremiah, attached to the left hand responsible for the art. I'm married, have a beautiful 6-month old girl and work a day job. I don't have enough time in the day for these things on their own, let alone this amazing experience of a comic.

I love the Zero-Men. Unfortunately, it turns out I only have a friendly acquaintance with drawing. It's my sincere hope the Zero-Men can live on in some other form. I probably won't be part of that though, at least not in such a big way.

To our truly stupendous fans, I am deeply sorry you don't get to enjoy this longer. Issue #1 will stay here as long as Jeremy wants to have web hosting for his clandestine purposes, since he's been graciously footing the bill.

If there is anything you, the fan, desire please - please - e-mail one of us or drop a line on the forums. We'll see what we can do.

Stay awesome folks. TTFN.

Tales of the Zero-Men: Costume Concept Art

Greetings from Zero-Land! I promised some concept art and other goodies as we pave the way for issue #2, so here's the first of it. I dug up some ancient history for you folks this week. Let me know what you think.

As some know, the Zero-Men started as a Mutants & Masterminds campaign. We wanted a "team book," and took great pains to spell out exactly what kind of team (and what kind of book) the Zero-Men would be.

Pictured to your left is the very first drawing I did for the game, to puzzle out the team uniform. This was at the start of summer in 2005. This particular drawing comes a long way, seeing as I left my sketchbook at work of all places when I evacuated for Hurricane Katrina. Lord knows what cosmic forces preserved it, but clearly it was to show you today.

For you curious artists, you can see my process is effectively a brain dump. Every good artist does this, they just don't show it publicly (which now officially makes me a bad artist). That one on the bottom-left has some crazy shoulder thing. What is it? I'll tell you: it's crap, which is why it didn't make the cut.

I'll post this up in my modest Zero-Art thread on our forums if anyone wants to talk more about process and such.

Next time I'm planning to show off some new stuff for the upcoming issue, and then maybe I'll meander back to issue #1 stuff. There's so much to show!

PS: There's updates in the Database, too!

- Jeremiah

Tales of the Zero-Men: "Brave New World" page 22

It is finished. Okay, only one issue is finished. All the same, tell your friends, relatives and co-workers!

Let me once again reiterate our post-issue plans. We will take an extended break to plan the next issue, catch up on back burner work, and tend to our wilted lives.

The Zero-Men will still be active. The Database will see some updates. I'll post some concept art and updates here from time to time. We'll also stay in touch on the Forums. Fear not!

For the time being, I am going to kick my feet up for a few days and enjoy my family. Oh, and do a mountain of post-holiday chores I've been putting off. See you soon!

Tales of the Zero-Men: "Brave New World" page 22 teaser

Merry Christmas and happy holidays! I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is, my most amazing and supportive wife has a spectacular cold. My time has largely been devoted to taking care of our baby Debra and letting Allie sleep.

The good news is, I couldn't bear to leave you another Thursday without anything. The comic is almost done! Unfortunately, my inking is turning to scribbles, so I won't be able to finish until tomorrow. Please accept the first panel as a downpayment.

Regular readers probably know that we are taking a break, likely a month or two. We're planning the next issue and doing back-burner stuff. Zero-Men-dot-com will be very active, but not by way of comics. The Database will get updated, we'll do some more t-shirt designs, and I'll probably post some old and new concept art to whet your palette.

Whew, that's it for tonight. I'm getting some sleep. See you tomorrow!

Tales of the Zero-Men: "Brave New World" page 21

I've been re-reading the comic - that action scene is even better than in my head! I, uh, wasn't paying attention at the time I guess?

Two things to know about the update schedule:

Life as a father is taking most of my non-work time. Updates have and will continue to be slowed down to about one every couple of weeks. I might not have been clear on that last time. Thursday is still the magic day.

After page 22 (the next page), we will have a full issue! We will also be taking an extended break to prep issue #2. I'm anticipating one to two months, since us creators live in different cities.

Not sure if you can remember to check back? I highly recommend our RSS feed! If you've never tried RSS before, you'll need a feed reader. I recommend Google Reader. Sign up, hit "Add Subscription" and copy-paste the link to our feed.

Anyway, I'm off to get far too little sleep. Good night!

Tales of the Zero-Men: "Brave New World" page 20

Page 20 has arrived! Huzzah and huzzah.

So apparently the aforementioned Assassin's Creed came out a couple Tuesdays ago... for the Xbox and PS3. I am the proud owner of a Wii and a PC, the latter of which doesn't see the game until February. Woe is me!

Ah well, I'm redirecting my fervor to Super Mario Galaxy, partly because the multiplayer sounds ideal for my wife and I, and partly because I understand it to be the second (read: fifth) coming of the red plumber.

Obviously I'm having a hard time keeping schedule here. I'm not going to make promises. Raising a baby is extremely occupying. Thursday will stay the magic day though, to keep things simple.
